Stud Welding – Efficient, Precise and Cost-Effective Joining

Stud welding is a highly specialised process used in many branches of industry. It serves to join studs securely and permanently to a metal surface without the need for drilling or any other mechanical fastening. The process is highly efficient, as it is fast, precise and economical.

Stud welding processes

In stud welding, a stud is welded onto a workpiece using an arc or resistance welding process. The arc generates high temperatures, melting the material at the point of contact. The stud is then pressed into the molten metal, creating a solid joint.

Advantages of stud welding

  • No pre-drilling required: Unlike conventional screwing or riveting, the surface remains intact.
  • High strength: The joint is highly resilient and offers strong mechanical holding force.
  • Speed: The welding time is often just a few milliseconds, enabling high productivity.
  • Versatile applications: Suitable for a range of materials such as steel, stainless steel or aluminium.
  • Automatable: Can easily be integrated into industrial production processes.
  • Clean processing: No chips or residues are produced, which makes subsequent cleaning easier.

Frequently asked questions

Here we answer key questions about stud welding.
A quick, compact guide to everything worth knowing about our processes.

Which materials can be joined by stud welding?

Steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metallic materials are suitable for stud welding.

Which stud sizes can be welded?

The process is suitable for studs with diameters from approx. 2 mm to 25 mm, depending on the system and material.

Is stud welding cost-effective?

Yes. Because it is very fast and requires no finishing work, it significantly reduces production costs.

Can the process be integrated into automated production lines?

Yes, modern stud welding systems are easy to integrate into existing manufacturing processes.

Are there any limitations to stud welding?

Yes, the process is not suitable for very thin materials under 0.5 mm thick, as deformation can occur.

How long does a welded joint last?

Stud-welded joints are extremely durable and just as strong as the base material itself.
